(background copied from this article appearing in the North Adams Transcript July 10, 1907) - Dr. Jones' Career Dr. Lyman A. Jones was born in Appleton, Wis., in 1855, and received his early education there. His father was a professor in Lawrence University, and he was graduated from institution in 1886. He came east to attend Harvard medical school, and received his degree in 1891, having served one year as house officer in the Worcester city hospital previous to taking his degree, in accordance with the requirements in this state. Early in 1892 he went to the Worcester insane hospital as assistant physician and remained there three years when he went abroad. He remained 15 months, and spent about a year of this time in study in Germany. Returning in the fall of 1896, he established himself in Williamstown and was in practice there for three years before coming to this city, where he has since been. Dr. Jones was the first agent of the local board of health, having held the position during the outbreak of small pox in this city. After this episode he brought suit against the city for extra services, and won his case. |
